What is Modified Atmosphere & Modified Humidity Packaging?



Modified Atmosphere (MAP) Packaging 

All the fresh fruits & vegetables and freshherbs continue to breathe, in other words respire after they have been harvested as well. They consumes oxygen and produces carbon dioxide and water vapour while respiring. To provide this system and keeping these packaged products fresh, it should be reduced the respiration rate as soon as possible without harming the quality of the product (its taste, aroma, texture and appearance). Firstly,  it should be started to reduce respiration rate by reducing temperature. The main logic of using MAP is reduced levels of oxygen and increased levels of carbon dioxide. However, this process is so hazardous. if there is too little oxygen in the packaging atmosphere, this process could be caused problem that called anaerobic respiration. This problem will be caused to unwanted tastes, odours and spoilage in the product. Also, excessively high carbon dioxide could  damage some kind of product.  The packaging material used for fruit and vegetables have especially and most particularly permeable and breathable features. If the products are sealed in an air proof package, oxygen will  decline soon and undesirable anaerobic conditions could develop. On the other hand when the material is too poriferous, the modified atmosphere will escape out and will be no get benefit.

The aim of  FreshPlus® MAP  is to obtain a proper modified atmosphere for products. Here, oxygen and carbon dioxide could pass between the inside and outside of the package In this case, as the oxygen within the package is consumed, it needs to be received oxygen from outside. At the same time, a constant level of carbon dioxide should be maintained.

In this case, excess carbon dioxide formed within package should be evacuated to outside if necessary. Another advantage of  FreshPlus® MAP  modified atmosphere is that it reduces the hormone ethylene which is produced by the fruit, vegetables and freshherbs.

Modified Humidity (MA/MH) Control Packaging

As well as all the features of modified atmosphere packs, humidity-controlled packages gives effective results especially in the absence of pre-cooling. The hot air remaining in the package when enters the cold environment, which makes water vapor that builds up on the package, thereafter water falls in drops on the crops, causes the product to become wet and starts to decay. However, some varieties of fruits and vegetables they want to have a high relative humidity environment. At this point, the new technology humidity controlled FreshPlus® MA/MH  is activated, it exports the moisture in the environment, it creates the humidity that fruits and vegetables desires. Packaging prevents the formation of drops and provides a controlled environment.

Our special films with Water Vapor Transmission Rates (WVTR) are designed to provide the most appropriate shelf life extension features.

FreshPlus® MA/MH  packages are available of breathing prevents bad odors in the environment. Also FreshPlus® Active Bag can controls potential risks of sudden temperature changes.

Soon, the kinds of the antibactarial FreshPlus® [ ABact ] MA/MH and antimicrobial FreshPlus® [ AMicr ] MA/MH   package will be ready.

Pallet Modified Atmosphere Packaging 

There are 3 types of packaging.

1. Pallet Bag: All pallet is leaked by a special bag. The bottom of this bag is open. The board has a length up to the pallet. By using this, it is ensured that the fruit is not affected by the air circulation during storage and shipment. thus, fruit skin shrinkage and drying of the stems are prevented. It prevents weight loss by about 7-8%. It is practical to use. It doesn’t require any special vacuum or gassing process.
2. Pallet MA / MH bag: First put kraft paper (thick piece of paper) on top of wooden or plastic pallet. Special leak-proof package is placed on top of the paper. The boxes are on top of the palette. Pre-cooling is done. The entire pallet is passed over the special modified bag. Lightly discharged air. It is closed by means of sealing tape by combining it with the other package at the bottom. Thus, the entire pallet is put into the modified package. It requires special workmanship. You should be careful not to bite and puncture. It prevents weight loss by 12-16%.
3. Active Pallet bag: the same as the other pallet (Pallet MA / MH), consists of 2 parts of the top and bottom. After the entire pallet is prepared, the air in it is vacuumed by means of its special machine. The machine automatically pumps specific CO2 gas into the package. so the products are modified in special conditions. It requires special workmanship. It requires investment in gassing machine. It is sensitive to puncture and tearing. It prevents weight loss by 15-20%.

Our company manufactures all 3 products. but they are specially manufactured according to the measurement of these items palette. Therefore, their production is carried out through a special process.

Bag sizes to suit your pallet sizes are given below:
1.- 1.00 meters wide by 1.20 long by 2 meters high.  = 240*282 cm
2.- 1.00 meters wide by 1.20 long by 1.80 meters high. =  240*265 cm
3.- 0.80 meters wide by 1.20 long by 1.60 meters high. = 220*248 cm

A special gas machine is required for the active pallet system.

Our company also produces and sells the machine required for this system. By machine; You can vacuum the air in the bag and release a special mixture into the bag with the special CO2 tube you will buy.

Loss of weight

All fresh fruits and vegetables during storage and shipping more or less are subject to weight loss. Rates ranging from 2% to 25% of the weight loss also reduces the quality of the products.
